ISTE Standards Reflection
I found these standards to be very interesting, and also quite useful in promoting technology in the classroom. I was easily able to identify a few strengths and weaknesses when I read through the list of standards for teachers. First of all, I would say that my main weakness falls large category, and that is ignorance. I am not technologically illiterate by any means, but technology being what it is it progresses very quickly. As an educator I see it as my responsibility to keep up with this progression, in order to meet these standards and provide the best learning environment for my students as I possibly can. I am one hundred percent positive that there are a thousand and one different programs and such out there that could really enhance the learning ability of my students, and at the same time help me to hold up against these standards. I am sure that with the proper research and application I would have no trouble meeting any of these standards. Now, on to my strengths. I’ll start off by saying that I completely agree with all of these standards, but I’ll pick out a few that I believe I will be able to implement best. The first is 1B, which basically talks about looking at real world issues and solving real world problems. This lines up perfectly with my major, Agricultural Education, which all about real world application, so I look forward to learning about how I can use technology to brace that in the classroom. Another I feel I will be strong at is 2B, this one discusses using technology to help students pursue their individual curiosities, which is something I am very much in favor of. I know from experience that students learn best when they are interested and engaged in the topic, and I know technology can help a lot in that. I look forward to learning how to really make use of these standards through the duration of this course.
